Seacroft Wheelers Committee – 18 June 2018
Seacroft Wheelers is at its strongest point for several years, the committee agreed at its most recent meeting in June. Club membership is now more than 100 and is continuing to rise each month; there are more than 450 members of the Facebook group; and Sunday ride numbers are up around 60% on this time last year.
With that growing interest in the club comes challenges aswell as opportunities and, with that in mind, the committee intends to meet those challenges head-on. As more people turn out on Sunday mornings, more leaders and organisers are needed to assist with ensuring safety and order. We are currently considering who might be suitable to become additional ride leaders – but if you are interested in helping in this area, please get in touch.
It was also agreed to repeat the recent – and very successful! – ‘Zero-2-Hero’ and Invitation Ride initiatives. This will commence in July, to piggy-back media attention on the Tour de France. This could increase the pressure on ride leaders – so again, member support in this area would be appreciated.
A ‘long distance’ ride (i.e. 100-plus miles) is still being considered for the summer, though this will now take the shape of a regular Sunday trip from the Skyliner, rather than supported with vehicle back-up; ride leaders are looking at a number of options, and this will probably happen next month.
As reported elsewhere on Facebook and the website (and since emailed to the full membership), the summer social will go ahead on 18 August at the Lamb & Flag in Leeds city centre. Places are limited so please book early – refer to your emails or check the website for booking details.
Finally, the committee unanimously endorsed the idea (from Martin Clough & Yassir Al-Ausi) for an organised monthly mountain bike ride. This will be on Sunday morning (so could cause some decision-making for dual-discipline riders), but we had to try to fit it in somewhere, and Sunday is the most popular day for rides. Martin is seeking members input/suggestions on the format – check within the Facebook group for his posts.
