All awards and competitions for Seacroft Wheelers in 2020 have been cancelled due to Covid-19.
The move was made to cancel the club’s awards programme, along with several other decisions, at a recent committee meeting (see separate report on other outcomes). The club’s competitive activities, along with Sunday rides and a range of other member services, has been decimated by the necessary restrictions introduced since March 2020 to fight the disease, and the decision had been on the cards for some time. The committee had been holding off from making the final move in the hope that something could have been pulled out of the bag.
Club Chair, Mike Cartwright, said: “It’s sad that we’ve had to take the decision to cancel the club’s awards programme this year. Each January, members come together to celebrate their collective and individual achievements at our annual awards dinner. It’s a great night, and an opportunity to catch up with old and new friends away from the bike over a nice meal and a few drinks. The competitive side of club activities has been affected so much this year that this would have punched a big hole in the awards night, even if we’d been allowed to get together. I’m sure that members will understand and appreciate the situation.”
The committee hopes to put on a social occasion for members once the Covid-related restrictions are finally put behind us.
(As well as the awards dinner, members usually meet socially at a summer and Christmas gathering, plus other ad hoc get-togethers.)
