Seacroft Wheelers Committee Report – For Members – 20 Nov 2019
A number issues and initiatives were discussed by the committee and general membership at the club’s latest meeting (18 Nov 2019).
Investing in cycling
It was agreed to explore the options for adapting a donated bike that could be used to help new and potential members. The club has been offered a road bike (that previously belonged to a member) that is currently unsuitable for beginners or young riders; but with some adaptations and component alterations, this could be overcome. It was agreed to discuss with members familiar with ‘fettling’, how much this would cost. The committee is willing to invest funds into this as a useful project.
Supporting our Sunday Ride Leaders
The club will provide training – via a third party – for some of our regular Sunday group leaders, to ensure the best possible support and assistance is given to members.
Courses are available from organisations such as Cycling UK and British Cycling and these bodies are to be approached to provide a one-day session to a handful of members who regularly take charge on Sunday mornings. The advice, guidance and tips received by this group will then be cascaded out to other leaders and members to ensure that full ‘value for money’ is gained from this experience.
In a follow-on to an earlier decision to provide club-funded jerseys to the regular road leaders, this will be backed up with a similar offer for off-road leaders.
Off-Road Rewards
It was agreed to create an award for the best woman rider in the cyclo-cross competition, which has so far made no distinction between genders.
(There will still be recognition for the other categories in the YCCA points competition)
Road Race Sponsorship
The committee is currently tee-ing up a well-known cycling brand to come on board as a sponsor. Looking initially at next year’s road race, an approach has been made to one organisation to financially support this event, which could open the door to other partnerships working of benefit to both parties.
Next year’s road race is being lined up to happen in March.
Roles and responsibilities
A document is being worked up that would list the duties and tasks of all those connected with supporting the club. While the responsibilities of committee members has been documented for some time, it was felt useful to extend this to include those helping with other activities, such as competitive events.
(However, this is proving to be a laborious and protracted process, taking longer than initially expected but we are nearly there.)
Annual Awards Dinner – 2020
Plans were approved for next year’s annual awards dinner, which will take place on Saturday 18 January 2020.
This event – a celebration of the achievements of the club and its members in various competitions, categories and events during the previous 12 months – is marked with a dinner and keynote speaker. It will again take place at the Crowne Plaza, Leeds. More details to follow soon.
Christmas Social – 2019
The meeting was told of the plans for a Christmas Social to take place in the centre of Leeds, on Friday 13 December. This is to be an informal affair, moving between several venues, so that people can join in at various parts of the afternoon or evening, depending on their personal circumstances.
Details are already included on the Facebook group, in the ‘Events’ section, and will be added to the website shortly.
Club Kit Order
The third Biemme kit order was submitted at the start of November and once we have an expected date for delivery, members will be notified.
